Learn About File Manager & How To Use It Via The Shared Web Hosting Control Panel

Quick Intro

The File Manager allows you to quickly and easily access your files. Our advanced File Manager features drag & drop uploading, file and folder permission management, deletion and restoration of files, creation of new files or folders, and direct file modification.

Important To Know Before You Begin

Besides uploading files, you can also download any file, create archives, and download them as a single file. Given that Web Host Most offers a high-speed data connection, the only limitation to transfer speed is the speed provided by your internet service provider.

Accessing File Manager

To access the File Manager:

  1. Navigate to Files Management > File Manager in your Web Control Panel.
  2. The File Manager will open in a new tab.

Using File Manager

Uploading Files

To begin hosting your web project, you must upload files using the File Manager:

  • Ensure you upload them into the correct folder associated with your domain name. For example, for the domain name 4linuxmd.com, the root folder would be My Files > domains > 4linuxmd.com > public_html.
  • You can upload entire archives (.zip or .tar.gz) and extract them directly into the public_html folder. Remember, each domain or subdomain has its own folder with a public_html.

You can learn more about Domain Management here.

To upload files, you can either use the "Plus" icon to select files from your computer or use the "Drag & Drop" feature to drag files directly into the File Manager. If you use the Advanced Installer Hub, it will automatically extract files into the proper folder of the selected domain.

Changing Files/Folders Permissions

You can change permissions for files or folders via the File Manager:

  1. Select the folder or file for which you need to change permissions.
  2. Right-click and select Set Permissions.
  3. Adjust the permissions as needed and click Save.
  4. If changing permissions for a folder and you wish to apply the changes recursively to all files within, select the Recursive toggle before saving.

Permissions are represented by numbers:

  • 7 (Owner) - Read, write, and execute
  • 5 (Group) - Read and execute
  • 5 (Others) - Read and execute

Copying or Moving Files/Folders

To copy or move files or folders:

  1. Select the files or folders you need.
  2. Right-click and choose Copy or Move, depending on your need.
  3. Enter the desired path or use the Folder Browser to choose a new location, then execute the action.

Deleting/Restoring Files

Files and folders can be deleted to the Trash Bin for temporary removal:

  1. Select the items you wish to delete.
  2. Right-click and select Remove to move them to the Trash Bin, where they can be restored if needed.
caution

Permanently deleted files cannot be restored. Be cautious with the "To Trash Bin" toggle to avoid permanent deletion.

File Manager Configurations

Customize your File Manager experience:

  • Access settings via the Settings button within the File Manager.
  • Adjust layout preferences, toggle Dark Mode, set default archive types, turn on folder sizes, and more.
important

The File Manager is one of the alternative options for uploading files to the server. FTP is not available due to security reasons, use sFTP instead. For SSH access details, refer to SSH Keys.
