Managing Site Redirects

Learn How To Manage Your Site Redirects Via The Web Hosting Control Panel

Quick Intro

After assigning your domain name to the Web Control Panel, you can manage your site redirects. This feature allows you to redirect any links from your existing domain to any location, without needing to edit the .htaccess file, which is especially useful if you are not familiar with it.

For example, if you decide to stop using your blog and want to redirect visitors from the blog page to the forum page, you can easily set this up with Site Redirects. Redirects can even target external domains.

Important To Know Before You Begin

There are three main types of redirects:

  • 301 - Permanent: Use this to permanently redirect traffic from one URL to another.
  • 302 - Temporary: Use this for temporary redirection, for situations where the target URL might change again soon.
  • 303 - Replaced: Use this to indicate that a resource has been replaced.

SEO Considerations and Performance Impacts

Redirects, particularly excessive or improperly implemented ones, can negatively affect your site's SEO and page load times. A permanent redirect (301) can pass most of the link equity (ranking power) to the redirected page, but may still result in a slight loss of SEO strength. It is crucial to plan and implement redirects strategically to minimize any negative impacts.

How To Create a Site Redirect

To create a site redirect:

  1. From your Web Control Panel, navigate to Domain Management > Site Redirection.
  2. Click Create New Redirect.
  3. Enter the local URL path you wish to redirect.
  4. Choose the Redirect Type (301, 302, or 303).
  5. Enter the desired destination URL.
  6. Click Create.

Site Redirect Setup

This functionality ensures that users are directed to the appropriate part of your site or another site without encountering broken links or outdated content. By managing redirects directly from the Web Hosting Control Panel, you maintain better control over user experience and site structure.

Redirecting HTTP to HTTPS

To enhance security and improve SEO, it is recommended to redirect all HTTP traffic to HTTPS. This can be set up using a permanent (301) redirect to ensure all connections to your site are secure. For detailed instructions on setting up SSL certificates, see SSL Certificates.
